About this map:

The reason for making this map in the first place was because i wanted to ride a T-Rex and shoot people. After that i remembered some of you talking about wanting to try hunting in a jungle environment, so i added the Velociraptors and the tall Grass for players to hide in(i recommend using the radar when hunting them). Thats why i added the custom radar to make it easier for the true hunters who wants a challenge.

There are several secrets, but none have any real impact on any gameplay. You can see most of them in the video. Those who is not shown in the video, makes only small tweaks that have nothing to do with gameplay(for example; when picking up a certain gun, 1 of the raptors will take a detour).

You can camp on the roof of the hunting-towers, but there is a button that will trow everyone off the roofs of both towers, be careful^^
60c00ba24a.jpg e7fa3a07fc.jpg 49f0d502c9.jpg
(Its very visible and people will press it just because its a button, so its not really a secret)

Known Issues/Bugs:

- The T-Rex may start "headbanging" his head(you'll know if you see it) and after a while he will become invisible. I have no idea why this is happening, but after alot of testing and reading i have to conclude that its just our wonderful Source Engine with its little quirks. Yes, i know what most of you are thinking, and No, its not the model, i have tested.
But luckily it has no impact on the gameplay, the platform you stand on is still there and you can ride it as always. The T-Rex just become invisible, no more happens :)

- I duno, but the radar-map may flicker. Not the radar itself, but the overview picture of the map.

I need all the feedback i can get, please try it and share.

Hey wolf,
first of all thanks for the map you have done a very good job. It seems to be a nice map, I had not tested it until yet, but will do it soon (maybe tomorrow).. And I have just watched your FPS-Points on the pictures. 60 FPS ? Which grafic-card do you have ?
On a high-core GPU it can be to less, 60 FPS isn't so much if you play with a new GPU...
Maybe trying to refix the map and check if everything what is possible is on nodraw texture, maybe to much light entinitys ?

I can say more about that map if I checked it tomorrow then :)..

€dit: The video isn't working now. It shows that it doesnt exist anyway. Is it still uploading ? :O...

Regards,

the youtube video just finished uploading.

and the fps is just because i record at 60 fps. the file-size gets so big if i record at 300 fps :p
see?:

this is the most "heavy" fps-place on the map, alot of props and models in an open area. but after making my first map(hillbilly backyard) i learned to make sure the fps stay as high as possible :)

when i tested the fps by turning on mat_wireframe and giving it a hard go in the most gpu-grinding place i could find, my fps was still at 180-200.

Watched the video and I just say I got really impressed about that map :).. Will take a look tomorrow and present my opinion about it :)..
Maybe I will decode it and watch over sourcesdk inside :D

Hey Wolf,

I like the looks of it. I'll give it a test tomorrow and I'll try finding some bugs.
Also, I recommend you use Sony Vegas after recording with Fraps. Fraps records in AVI and is insanely high in capacity consumption. Every clip you record with Fraps should be imported into Sony Vegas and converted into a 720p HD mp4 or 30fps HD wmv and it will reduce the file size dramatically.
It will also use less memory while playbacking.

All-in-all, great job. Can't wait to test it out.

Sincerely,
-cHeT [BeWasted]

Thanks for the early feedback and comments, many have already tried this map and helped me with their opinions and noticing things i have missed, yours will be just as welcome :)

about recording:
i use Dxtory and not Fraps, and i record at top quality. 20 minutes usually take about 20GB, and atm i got 103 recordings(files) that is about 14:18:04 hours and a total of 715GB in my recording folder.
And.. its not an issue, i got the space for it :p
I do it this way because i want the raw data to be as good as possible so i can edit the video at the quality i choose. Some videos needs more quality and MB than others. the video for this map is 3:33 min and was 1GB before upload(youtube makes the quality abit worse).

I tried Sony Vegas but i had a lot of problems with it so i use CyberLink PowerDirector & Corel VideoStudio. Corel is my favorite because its easiest and alot of options, the only issue i got with it is the compile(creating the final video) and you can't change the preview quality which makes it harder to edit the video. The result is that the memory is kinda full at all times and that sucks. But at adding motion and handling text Corel is the best and easiest. I sometimes edit my video in Cyberlink then finish it in Corel :)

umm.. that was alot of babbling, forgive me but im interested in this stuff :p

Haha, that makes two of us my friend.
I use Sony Vegas and After Effects. Sony Vegas is my main editing program because it's very easy to use and it doesn't take much time. Plus, the rendering is awesome.
For instance, I used to render my older videos (guitar covers) on 1080p which were approximately 2-4 minutes long and it took like 15 - 20-ish minutes.
The output is awesome. Why I also recommended converting the raw files? Well you can always render them into an .mp4 as 1080p and that's all you need. You don't go over 1080p and you can always reduce the quality to 720p, and it will still reduce the capacity dramatically. For instance, my zm_atix_helicopter video had 3 initial raw files and they were approximately 15-20GB. After editing it, importing pictures, text, music as well as my channel's intro, the final capacity of the video was 107MB for the length of 3 minutes and 16 seconds 1280x720 resolution. Raw files take up more system power to be played. For instance, my initial intro as an .avi file had to be "read" by VLC Media Player to actually be played (approximately 1.06GB for 8 seconds via After Effects render). But when I converted it via Sony Vegas, I didn't lose the quality but I was left with a 7,32MB file.
If You need some help regarding Sony Vegas, I can give You some pointers and help You out with the configuration. (I use Sony Vegas Pro 12.0 x64).
Also, I'm going to go and test Your map now then.
Will give a response when I'm done.
Cheers.

Sincerely,
-cHeT [BeWasted]

Ye, it sounds like we get about the same quality out of our different methods of producing the videos.
Look at my zm_playtime video and compare it to my zm_dino_day_v1 video. Run both at the highest settings(1080p) and you see a difference in quality. Not that big, but you notice. Both are .mp4, about 03:30 long and 1080p, but one is only half the size of the other. zm_playtime is at 422MB, 16900kbps and 30 fps and zm_dino_day_v1 is at .97GB, 40000kbps and 23fps. I did alot more work on my zm_playtime video and i used both programs when i made it. On the dino-video i only used cyberlink and the size didn't matter that much. but clearly more fps and less kbps made a big difference in file-size and almost nothing in quality :)

I watched the atix video and i think you can get much more quality with a little bigger file-size. i have tested, and the difference between 720 and 1080 is pretty much nothing when it comes to file-size. but 3 minutes and 107MB is still very impressive ;)

my issue with sonyvegas was that it always crashed, so i just didnt bother using it anymore. And from reading what you wrote, i think it doesn't really matter what program you use, unless there is a specific tool you want

You really like secrets huh? Haha.. We should team up and do a secret map hahaha...
True it's a bit noticeable, but nothing alarming...
Regarding my atix video, the raw file was 1280x1024 and the video output was 1280x720, so that was intentional.

Anyways, regarding the map. I've tested it out and I'm pretty satisfied with it. No loss of ms in any spots even though I don't have a powerful PC.
I haven't found any bugs for now, nor phasable blocked grounds. So, I'll just say well done.

Sincerely,
-cHeT [BeWasted]

That's the fun part of it... I just finished updating my SDK so I'm gonna give a shot on map-making again to see if I remember the basics haha...
Anyways if I forgot lots of stuff, I'll talk to You. I can always draw a map sketch. ^^
Again, good job. Keep up the good work.

Sincerely,
-cHeT [BeWasted]

Could anybody please add it to the rotation or special map list? I'd love to play this map on a full server :)

ps. cbble is twice in v3's nomination list

Wolfram, I think you made one spot on this map a little too easy for humans here's why
http://prntscr.com/4q9i4f

This was on v1 and of course there's always gonna be campers but that's just ridicilous.

I hope you make more "harder" maps that not everyone can just stay together and be safe for the rest of the game ^^

thanks for the respons mate, and nice of you to post a picture :)

Tbh i didn't anticipate that spot being op, but it looks like it can be if every CT is co-oping, like in that picture.

two things: (look at the picture, notice the 1 and 2 in blue).
e71c5a1a9a.jpg
1) cant a zombie just jump from that "tower" spot right in the group of CTs? you know, following the red arrow around the corner?
2) If i made a small path(road) up on that side help, or would that make the spot useless?

[ 3) cant zombies use the running Trex to help them get to the CTs? you get alot of bhop-speed from jumping off from him. ]

Anyway, its hard to predict how players will exploit a map and they will not always do what you want or expect. not only that, but if ct get a good spot, and they start using that spot alot, often zombies will find a counter-move to help them get the CTs. There are many good examples of that in many maps, just think of what ppl do with jump-boost :)

However, the spot could be op as you say, but ill need to see it for myself and test if the spot is indeed too OP before changing something permanently.

Thanks for taking time to report this to me, i was not aware if this potential issue, so this was very useful to me and i will investigate and test this further.

thanks again
