It was 12 hours from noon to midnight. From now to midnight is 12 / (1 +
1/3) = 9 hours. From noon to now is 3 hours. It is 3 o'clock in the
afternoon now.

Two mathematicians that were roommates has recently moved to the same street. They havent met in years and one of them now has three daughters.

The following conversation takes place:
A: How old are your daughters?
B: I will give you their ages as a mathproblem instead!
The product of their ages is 36. The sum is the same as your housenumber
A: Impossible! I need more information!
B: Ok! The oldest is a redhead
A: Thank you! Now I know

How old are the daughters?

The answer must be 2,2,9 right? Since there are only so many ways three numbers can have a poduct of 36.

Well he basically told him the housenumber since the only way it didn't help him at all was if it was 13 and you don't get 13 from 1,4,9. only from 2,2,9 and 1,6,6.
And it must be 2,2,9 since he had an "older" daughter who was redhead.

Here's the math i did:

1 × 1 × 36 = 36
1 × 2 × 18 = 36
1 × 3 × 12 = 36
1 × 4 × 9 = 36
1 × 6 × 6 = 36
2 × 2 × 9 = 36
2 × 3 × 6 = 36
3 × 3 × 4 = 36

1 + 1 + 36 = 38
1 + 2 + 18 = 21
1 + 3 + 12 = 16
1 + 4 + 9 = 14
1 + 6 + 6 = 13
2 + 2 + 9 = 13
2 + 3 + 6 = 11
3 + 3 + 4 = 10

Easy. half a year is 182.5

0.5 x 182.5 = 91.25

91.25 + 1.5 = 92.75 inch!

The other mathmatician knew the housenumber but even after the guy told him that the product is 36 and sum is the housenumber, he couldnt figure it out. Which means that 2 or more possible combination mustve had the same result. In this case:
1 + 6 + 6 = 13
2 + 2 + 9 = 13

If the housenumber wasn't 13 then he wouldve known. And then the guy says that the oldest is a redhead which means it has to be 2-2-9 because thats the only option where someone is the oldest
