maps | List + Add/Remove requests!

Здравствуйте и добро пожаловать на форум! Вижу, вы картостроитель: спасибо, что предложили свои карты для EH. Предлагаю загружать свои карты на наш форум, посвящённый картографии (каждая карта — отдельная тема), чтобы вы могли получать отзывы о необходимых изменениях/исправлениях, а также полезные советы, чтобы опробовать свои карты на наших серверах. Мы очень требовательны к новым картам, и все картостроители обязаны соответствовать нашим высоким требованиям к качеству (карты должны соответствовать нашему игровому моду, все места должны быть сбалансированы, карта должна быть сбалансирована, визуальные стандарты и т. д.).

Карты выглядят отлично, но я уже вижу несколько проблемных мест на скриншотах. А после загрузки Small Castle я заметил пять проблем в первой точке появления, которые требовали исправления, поэтому я прекратил тестирование.

I see these maps are direct ports from 1.6 to CSS. So my only guess is that they are filled with unbalanced spots since 1.6 zombie mod is infamous for the long crouch ways and spots with only one crouch way into them.

If you wish to see the maps on the server,you need to revamp/completely get rid of such spots as they will cause unbalance issues and probably server lags since they will be filled with people stucking into each other.

May ask you to make some map rotation, because like this is really repetative. The whole day i see the same 5-9 maps, 4way, cbble,officeattack, azduextincion, dust2 for example. The vote system problem is:
-1: Who have VIP can nominate before almost everyone else. ( I know i was VIP for so long)
-2: Because of the 1st problem the reflex votes always win, 80% of the players doesnt see what will be the next map and when we move there everyone want to RTV.
Another thing "speciel maps" Admins sometimes ask us to play speciel maps witch is a really cool thing truely! BUT they nominate the same maps likely : atix, 8 chambers. But there is Tons of Speciel maps this list from this forum:

-Make speciel maps really special maps like above or inster base maps like cs_assault, office like Dust2 they are pretty fun on ZM mod too and dont have to make with them anyting.
-(Another thing, but i have this idea a long time ago to make Friday fun nights. I mean from 20:00 CTE for 22:00, lower gravity, speed up for zm's or ct vica versa etc etc etc)

first of all thanks a lot for your long and constructive feedback. We really appreciate that you took the time to explain your points and even provided examples. It shows that you care about the server and the community - and that’s exactly what keeps EH alive after all these years.

To your points:

#Map rotation / repetition
There is already a cooldown system in place: a map that has just been played cannot be nominated for the next 3–4 votes. Since one round usually lasts at least 20 minutes, this means a map can’t reappear for about 60–80+ minutes. We could technically increase that cooldown, but experience shows that it would frustrate players who only join for an hour or two and just want to play their favourite map(s). In the end, the reason why maps like cbble, rush, dust2, office and similar appear so often is simply because they are very popular across all times of the day.

#Special maps
This topic is more complex. Special maps always require active admin supervision. Not every admin likes special maps, some prefer to avoid them completely. Others might have 1–2 favourites and only ask for those, because they know that as soon as they open the vote the majority of players will go for atix or 8campers (spelling mistake is intentional). Admins also need to make sure that special maps don’t cause problems (bugs, exploits, even crashes). While admins are technically allowed to load any special map they want, we advise them to ask players first and avoid overusing their own favourites.

Regular CS maps usually don’t work well with our ZM mod. Some exist as zm versions, but most of them don’t fit the gameplay or aren’t liked enough to be played regularly. That’s why the “special map pool” tends to circle around a few well-established names.

#Fun modes (Friday nights etc.)
Ideas like lower gravity or speed ups sound fun - but they also need full admin supervision and are not practical for prime time (especially weekend evenings CET). During these prime times we focus on stable gameplay and popular maps, because this is when the server is at its peak activity.

#VIP nomination
Yes, VIPs do have the privilege of nominating first. This is intentional: VIP is our way of thanking donors who help cover the costs of running and maintaining the servers. Hosting and management are not cheap, and without donations the project wouldn’t survive. This system also helps us motivate players to support the community.

We’ve discussed a lot of these topics a lot internally over the years (if you look through the forum you'll find a few threads about it). The reality is: players always tend to stick to their favourite maps. The first nominated map almost always has the highest chance to win, the second slot sometimes, while slot 3-7 rarely get attention. This is simply how the majority of our player base behaves - and while we can guide it a little, we cannot (and don’t want to) force it.

All in all, we understand your points and we see the same patterns ourselves. But given the limitations and preferences of the wider community, there is not too much room for big changes. Still, feedback like yours is valuable because it keeps us aware of how players feel.

Thank you for the information i dont know about that its already 60-80 mind cooldown on nomination and i get your point about that players who just hop on for a few round would like to play their favorite maps. I always played Zm since 2008 and there for i have tons of loved maps. So maybe this is one of the reasson that i would like to play on diffent maps, because of the good memories. :))

Yes i understand, it was jutst an idead for it. I back in days i was admin too, i know these kind of events need a full focus, because it can cause sometimes much more problem then fun. But keep in mind if not on friday or weekend peak time then in other time maybe ^^

I dont have any problem with the VIP's privilage its's a good thing my point rather focused on the voting system.
Im very glad that you are guys running the server all of these year i hope u never stop it.
But if we are talking about this topic i have another question about it. Right now we have 3 skin in option, is there chance to add 1 more for example some kinda Milsim style military skin? I promise definetely pay for it!! :D

I understand we have a small community and there is a thin line where you can make changes to avoid losing player base.

I'm also requesting to add the following maps:

zm_fubar_towers
zm_desert_fortress

Regarding motivation :
We’ve been playing some of these maps for over 10 years now. Personally, I’ve reached a point where I even consider quitting the game whenever I see certain maps or when they get voted for. For new members, it’s probably not that bad, but I’m sure there are quite a few people who would like to see some different maps for a change.
It’s not even about adding newly made maps, there were already plenty of great ones a long time ago, but over time, you gradually removed them from the map rotation. Back then we really had an amazing selection of maps.

i know that balance plays an important role but when every good spot gets weakened so much or even completely ruined, the game just becomes less fun. Balancing the maps might make them overall fairer for everyone, but it also takes away that rewarding feeling of reaching a good, highly desired spot, one you might even be able to hold on your own for a while.
Because of this, all the maps start to feel a bit the same. Everything gets equalized, and everything ends up feeling the same, at least in my opinion.

What also adds to this is that there seem to be more and more good players or “tryhards” nowadays, which in turn makes some spots that used to be fine in the past no longer viable. In the end, that basically leads to everyone using the same standard spots over and over again, which makes the game even more boring, since many of the old, once solid spots (from maybe 10-12 years ago) have become completely obsolete. At least I don’t remember people using techniques like run boosts back then, only a few were considered pros.

You want to remove two maps that support hunting playstyle (cbble, zmso) and two very campy yet still playable maps.
In return, you want to add two really unbalanced maps with broken spots that can easily become unreachable to zombies due to a use of just a few props or tight corridors.

Lots of maps that were removed in past few years had some kind of a problem, be it an exploit that made it unplayable or balancing issue that made it impossible to win as either a human or a zombie.
It's worth to mention that over the years, a lot of spots that were previously really hard to reach for zombies, became easily reachable due to more and more players learning how to "longknife". Something that became worse and worse over the years and something that is hardly fixable(would be fixed by now otherwise). That's why you need to be extra careful when defending a spot, something that people seem to forget about.

Runboost is something that we want. Some maps even have a guide in form of a banner that you can read and try to understand what it is about, because we want our players to learn and use it more often.
The idea is that when you defend a spot, you have to pay attention to what's happening around the map, instead of just shooting your gun at the way you climbed up. You can easily stop a runboost with just one shot, even with a pistol, all you have to do is pay attention and be aware.

Last thing, about those "tryhards". Some people join the game to camp and chill, others want to hunt, have the highest scores and be the best. You can't blame them for that.

On the "tryhard" topic, i actually think the skill ceiling of the server is insanely low lately, lot of good players come and go in vawes and we are in a drop vawe i feel like.

I’m aware that the chances of those maps being removed are pretty low, especially since we play them like 15 times a day. But that’s exactly why I added them to the list.

As for adding zm_fubar_towers and zm_desert_fortress, those are simply the only maps i still remember clearly from back in the day, so i just listed them as examples. It’s a suggestion. There are probably plenty of old maps that could be brought back into the rotation as well.


I understand that, and that’s exactly what kind of proves my point. Most spots nowadays just don’t work anymore, and what’s left are the same standard spots on the same 15 maps, every single day.

Of course, I also get that if a map is so unbalanced that it’s nearly impossible for either humans or zombies to win, then something needs to be done about it. But over the years, that process has simply made the overall map selection smaller and smaller.
In the end, a bit more variety would just be really nice to have again.


About the runboost, yeah, I know it’s explained with banners and that it’s something you guys actually want players to use. I don’t really have a problem with that, but it just makes even more spots kind of useless in the long run.

Still, from your reply I can tell that my suggestion probably isn’t very realistic anyway.


And about the “tryhards”, I don’t have anything against them either. Everyone should play the way they want, as long as it doesn’t break any rules. I’ve got nothing against good players. What I said was more about the spots themselves.
